Engineering Services
SHIPTEC´s engineering department is the largest such office in Switzerland. SHIPTEC´s engineers are able to offer full-scale project support, from design and development to construction preparation, supervision and completion.
The team of specialists consists of naval architects, mechanical engineers, ship technicians and craftsmen from all the specialist workshops. In order to maximize the value of SHIPTEC´s experience, only the most modern software applications are utilised. Additionally various other kinds of professional measurement equipment and modern analysis tools are used.
Overview
- Hydro-static calculations, (stability calculations and examination of heeling dynamics)
- Tug and tow trials and experiments (examination of hull structure, wave dynamics, calculations for hull consistency and sturdiness)
- Hydro-dynamic calculations and trials (drag calculations and trials)
- Fleet management; including status-quo analysis, financial planning, resource planning, communication with national regulatory authorities, safety clarification (all of these fleet management services help lead to quality improvements and guarantee a more efficient use of financial resources)
- Design and development of new ships
- Project management
- Feasibility studies
- Cost calculations
- Direct support for dealing with national regulatory authorities and international classification agencies

Software/ Infrastructure
Using modern, high-end software applications, the SHIPTEC Lucerne engineering office is able to calculate any kind of ship-related measurements or create new construction plans from scratch. We are able to optimise hull design through detailed studies and tests. We can examine the hydro-dynamic performances of existing ships as well as those of theoretical new designs. Hydro-dynamic tow and drag trials, intended to measure wave dynamics and a hull´s response, are performed together with engineers from our partner institution Solent University in Southampton, England.
The SHIPTEC Lucerne engineering office makes use of the following software:
- Computer Aided Design 2D & 3D (CAD) for the creation of new drawings and 3D models
- Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) for technical calculations
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural analyses and sturdiness calculations
- Power Prediction for speed and performance calculations
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the examination of fluid dynamics
- Electro-CAD for the drawing and layout design of circuit diagrams
- Special software for propeller calculations
