New patrol boats for the navy

First patrol boat built in Lucerne delivered for the navy.

Armasuisse, the armaments procurement organization of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), has approved the contract for the construction of the 14 new patrol boats.

The contract was awarded to Marine Alutech Oy Ab from Finland. Shiptec AG in Lucerne is responsible for the complete extension of 8 boats and the final extension of the remaining 6 boats. This means that a large proportion of value added remains in Switzerland..

The company Shiptec AG is the leading competence center for ship technology in Switzerland and unites the areas of shipbuilding, engineering and service under one roof. In the area of shipbuilding, new ships such as passenger ships, official boats or cargo ships are built. On the other hand, we also carry out complex renovations or conversions of existing ships. The Ship Design and Engineering division is the largest engineering office in Switzerland for the development, design and project planning of ships and naval technology. The service department ensures the availability of many professionally operated ships in Switzerland, on the one hand through sustainable maintenance management and on the other through the Shiptec stand-by organisation.

With over 70 employees, Shiptec AG, as a subsidiary of the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees (SGV) AG, is the largest provider of ship technology services in Switzerland and is delighted about the order placed by armasuisse with its Finnish partner company Marine Alutech Oy Ab and the opportunity to participate in this interesting project. Shiptec AG is convinced to be the right partner for the new construction of the Swiss patrol boats 16.

The time schedule provides for the new patrol boats for the army to be delivered in stages from spring 2018 to 2020. For this purpose, the experience gained from the extensive verifications that have taken place since April 2016, mainly on Lake Lucerne, was incorporated into the final design and construction.

So far 3 boats have been delivered. The third, which was handed over on 1 May 2019, is the first of the 8 boats to be built in Lucerne.
