Project management

People often underestimate the complexity involved in shipbuilding. With our many years of experience in project management and the right technical resources, we implement demanding new build and renovation projects within defined framework conditions.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

The complexity involved in shipbuilding is based on the interdependence of shipbuilding, operational and technical requirements. Thanks to our broad horizons and early amalgamation of specialist fields, Shiptec can implement demanding projects on time and in the quality required.

As part of the project management processes, small teams work with great agility on specific issues. The project management is supported by an experienced project supervisor, who can provide support and direction if needed.

This setup allows us to complete challenging projects by the agreed date and in a high quality finish.

Advice & expertise

The requirements for thorough technical documentation, evidence and, if necessary, tests are extensive. Shiptec helps you keep track of it all. We are at the cutting-edge of technology and know the expectations of the approval authorities, classification societies or agencies, so we can always provide correct advice.

As experts, we can assess specific questions in individual subject areas or support you through compliant and correct planning and implementation with relevant expert evaluations.

Two of Shiptec’s naval architects work as external experts for the SUK Basel. The SUK is a specialist nautical-technical inspection body for Rhine ships. The SUK is responsible for issuing, renewing and collecting vessel certificates for the large ships on the Rhine based on a technical ship inspection.

Project planning & project management

Realistic project planning is one of the most important aspects of the entire project management process. The start and end date of the project are subject to fixed operational framework conditions, especially when dealing with a renovation or modernisation project. It is therefore worth planning out the individual milestones with an experienced project team.

Our role in the project organisation is as flexible as your needs are varied. Thanks to our wealth of experience with a wide array of renovation, modernisation and new build projects, we can start ambitious projects off with realistic goals. When dealing with extensive endeavours, we are happy to take on the management of sub-projects. However, we assume overall responsibility or are the main contractor for most of our projects.

General contracting

In the case of larger shipbuilding projects – especially with new builds – the owner is dependent on a large number of suppliers and service providers. The mutual dependencies are sometimes complex and confusing. We have experience in this process and understand the mutual interconnections. Shiptec has the capacity, tools and organisational processes to implement complex projects when assuming overall responsibility. With us as the general contractor, the customer has a point of contact who is aware of the expectations and who works towards results in line with the agreed project objectives.

Project management

Demanding projects in shipbuilding often require higher-level control in order to be able to react to unforeseeable situations in the project management. Shiptec uses a steering group for all larger or more complex projects to monitor the cornerstones of quality, costs and deadlines, and to influence them if necessary.

This supervision can also be offered as a service to other project organisations. We support with the establishing and monitoring of schedules, carry out ongoing cost control and support the project management and other people involved in the project. It is particularly important that decisions are made in good time to ensure the project is a success.

Preliminary projects and feasibility studies

As a basis for making investment decisions, a preliminary project can provide the necessary data and facts, and also highlight any possible risks. In the case of complex issues with many ambiguities or to review an idea, Shiptec can provide clarity by carrying out a feasibility study.

Preliminary projects or studies are prepared in a format to suit the recipient, depending on the stakeholders for whom the issue is to be clarified. The bases for decision-making can be figured out in the context of strategic questions or we can work out the bases for project financing. As part of a comprehensive preliminary project process, we create full tender documentation including technical specifications for purchases in the public sector.
