Research platform "LéXPLORE"

The floating 10 x 10 meter pontoon will be used as a floating laboratory on Lake Geneva since 2019.
Project description
Shiptec AG was awarded the contract to build and equip a research platform for EPFL for mooring on Lake Geneva in March 2018. The platform was equipped by EPFL with state-of-the-art instruments to simultaneously measure physical, chemical and biological processes with high temporal and spatial resolution.
The project included the following main work for Shiptec AG:
- Design and calculation of the shipbuilding structures
- Design of the electrical systems
- Preparation of the construction documents
- Construction and preservation of the floating platform
- Installation of all energy and water systems
- Coordination and administration
Objectives
The LéXPLORE platform was built to create a safe environment that facilitates the working conditions of the researchers and allows measurements day and night, which were previously impossible.
Localization
The platform is located 570 m from the shore, at the coordinates: 46°30'0.819" North and 6°39'39.007" East. The water depth under the platform is 110 m.
