Ship's restaurant "Wilhelm Tell" on the floating dock

After 14 years the ship Wilhelm Tell came to our floating dock for four weeks for a hull overhaul

The steamship Wilhelm Tell has been operated as a restaurant on Schweizerhofquai in Lucerne since 1972. The last docking was in 2009, so it was high time to examine the hull more closely and renew the corrosion protection.

After cleaning the shell, which was heavily infested with mussels, a shell residue thickness measurement was carried out. This revealed a number of areas that needed to be repaired. Since we only had 4 weeks for all the work, we had to concentrate on the relevant spots in the underwater area and the stern area above the rudder. About 6 m2 of shell plate was replaced. Subsequently, the paint structure of the underwater protection was renewed up to the Leist.

There were many challenges during the course of the project. The condition of the shell was very poor in some places and we therefore had to cope with some additional work. Through almost daily and direct communication with the owner, however, we were able to implement and complete all the assigned work on schedule. The transport of the 350t heavy ship without propulsion was a masterpiece of the SGV/Shiptec team; especially the return transport was difficult, it had to be postponed twice due to strong winds.
