Project description

Due to the high trip frequency (17 times per day), two points were looked at in particular detail during the design phase: Optimising operating costs and ensuring availability at all times.

The following features make the MS Bürgenstock special:

- Highly efficient ship design
- Authorisation for 300 passengers
- 20 knots (37 km/h)
- Easy manoeuvrability
- Attractive design
- Efficient drive and energy concept

The innovative yet tried and tested hybrid energy and drive system from Siemens/Shiptec was used in the ship. The ship uses only the electric mode in the Lucerne lake basin and the diesel engines remain switched off. The batteries are recharged again during the journey across the Kreuztrichter.

After being in construction for two years, the MS Bürgenstock was finally commissioned on 26th May 2018.
