Starting point

After over 27,000 operating hours of the MAN main engines and over 37,000 hours of the Scania Gen-Set, the winter break was used to overhaul the diesel engines. The Schottel control system also received an update and was modernised.

Project Description

The overhaul began at the end of February 2023: The main engines and the gen-set were removed from the ship and brought to us in Lucerne for overhaul. After disassembly, the engines were inspected together with the experts and suppliers. Together with the customer, it was decided which parts should be replaced and which should be overhauled. At the same time, the dismantling of the old Schottel control system began.

After about a month, the engines were brought back onto the ship and mounted together with two new Schottel couplings. The new control system was also installed and after some additional modifications to the main distribution, everything was commissioned from mid-April. The successful acceptance by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) took place on 27 April 2023.

Challenges

Due to the situation on the world market, it has been an immense challenge for some time now to ensure that all key components are delivered on time. Despite a 10-month lead time, important parts arrived practically only to the day. The revision of the MAN engines by Shiptec also had to be well prepared. Thanks to the know-how of our competent staff, we were able to carry out the engine overhaul. It is of great interest to shipping companies that overhauls of older as well as more modern diesel engines are possible. -

We would like to thank the customer for the trust placed in us and for the competent cooperation on this major project!
