Starting point

Shiptec received the order for a total renovation in 2005. With our experience in renovating steamboats, the owner found the right partner for the job. First, the elegant iron shell was restored and preserved. Every detail of the extensions and superstructures was faithfully reproduced with meticulous care. Shiptec also installed the engine and boiler, as well as the propeller shaft.

Goals

It was important to restore the boat in a way that stayed true to the original. The beautiful and historic ‘St. Urs’ was handed over to its owners in excellent quality after successful test runs in the summer of 2006.

Challenges

A major problem was finding a steam engine that was as similar to the original as possible. We found an English product that had been made in 1898. This was restored and made ready for operation in Thun and later installed by Shiptec.

«»

The main reason we chose Shiptec for this challenging renovation of the over hundred year-old St. Urs steamboat was that the company combines naval architecture, wood and steel boat building and steam technology expertise under one roof and has a history in dealing with steam technology.
